Andy In Nice 2008 I’m Andy Henry, I’ve been using the Internet for marketing purposes since 1999 and I’ve used just about every method you could hear of. I’ve created this blog so that I can share what works and what doesn’t with anyone who’s walking a similar path and doesn’t want to have to relearn the lessons I learned the hard (and long) way. A new really creative product comes out today.

    Friday, March 5th, 2010

I know that new things come out all of the time, but hey who has time to watch (or even care about) most of them - not me.

Anyway, my internet marketing friend Rob Puddy is today launching a really interesting and creative new product. It’s called My Best Bonus Offer

Rob is an affiliate marketer and makes his living selling his own and other peoples products.

He was telling me about how the average newcomer to Internet Marketing often struggles to compete with the big guys when they want to make money referring people to a new product.

If you’re not familiar with with affiliate marketing, it’s just a way to get paid for sending customers to someone with a product to sell - nothing complicated, but when you’re trying to get your message out above a lot of people with more money and better access to the target audience it can be difficult to be taken seriously.

Rob wanted to address that, so that he could compete with the big guns and also so that people could promote his products even if there were big promotions already going on.

Robs new product revolves around the idea that many people go looking for who’s got the best bonus when a product is being offered by many people.

This is a sound principle as many people expect bonuses and so there are always people offering them. It somewhat comoditizes the main product but seems popular and helps sales so people do it.

I won’t bore you with all the details but I’ll just tell you this is new and different and if you’re even vaguely interested in affiliate marketing you’re like it.

Rob has a video on his site that’ll tell you what it’s all about. I hate sales videos and when it started I thought it was going to be really complicated and boring, but actually when I sat through it I came away very impressed. It’s a great idea and I didn’t think he was so creative, so respect to him for even thinking of this let alone turning it into a product. I’ve already started using it.

    My plans for 2010

    Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Ok, it’s now the new year and since my last post where I’d been sat in a coffee shop planning the year I’ve been busy doing things.

I’ve had a bunch of graphics done, written a bunch of content, planned some videos, bought PLR rights to some products and bought a cool traffic generating system so that I can offer all of my customers a bit of free traffic for their websites.

It’s not really a good idea to give myself extra competition but I know you’ll kick me if I don’t point you to check this out
I won’t let the cat out of the bag about my new products yet, but I’ll be giving one of them away for free in a closed giveaway that will have new stuff that comes from serious marketers. It’s not open yet, but if you’re looking for more traffic youself you might want to get onboard (warning, it’s $100 to join so only for serious people)

    Who is twitter for?

    Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

If you’re not familiar with Twitter and are wondering what all the fuss is about, here’s a little intro into why people are talking about it.

Twitter can be used for many reasons from keeping up with the activities of friends to growing to business and even making money.

As a new user you can start finding and following Twitter users from around the world who interest you,  and share skills and interests while avoiding using websites who ask you for your Username and Password and then send you more than you bargained for.

If you’re familiar with communities like Facebook then you’ll already understand this territory where you get the benefit of keeping up with friends and finding new people, but need to control the amount of ‘flow’ coming your way.

With Twitter that’s as easy as selecting ‘unfollow’ (you can always choose the follow them again later)

For corporations and small business users, you can search for negative comments made about your services or products by Twitter users around the world and be pro-active in improving your product or service. You can even ‘follow’ Twitter users who evangelize your products or services to build relationships with people that are helping your business grow. Doing these activities can help you grow a solid Twitter following that is highly targeted to your business.

If you’re working from home Twitter can bring back that community feel that most home workers miss after leaving a normal job where there are people around and watercoolers to chat near :)

If you read my recent posts about having marketing legend Mark Joyner drop by for lunch you’ll already know I’ve found personal and business benefits from using Twitter.

So, it’s free, you really have nothing to lose and a lot to gain by giving it some attention.

When you do - follow me!

      You’ll find me at http://www.twitter.com/andyhenry

How To Quickly Create An Affiliate Blog

      Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

      Hi,

This is a very simple strategy, but one that is making a LOT of people very good money online.

The general idea is that you find what’s selling on Ebay (Use ‘Ebay Pulse’) and then create a blog-based affiliate store promoting all of the items in that niche which are currently available on Ebay.

The tool to quickly and effectively create these is called PhPbay See it here

This is affiliate marketing at its simplest, but this script is really powerful and because you can use it on a Wordpress blog, all you need is a blog and you can create an affiliate site in minutes.

      Check it out now.

To IM or not to IM

      Sunday, October 19th, 2008

      Hi Warriors,

I’ve been giving a lot of thought lately to what I want from life and how (and if) IM fits into that.

When I started IM it was for many reasons, such as:

1 - To be able to work from home.
2 - To be able to spend time with my family (thinking ahead because I was married but no children at the time. I just wanted to make sure when we had children I could be there with them)
      3 - Unlimited potential
4 - Control over my work and life
5 - Freedom to choose how and who I would work with.
6 - Get rid of debts and be able to leave my job if I wanted.
7 - I was a techy and liked the technology.

      etc.. the usual stuff.

Now I’m at the point where I’m not motivated by making money for its own sake and I’m not interested in the technology for its own sake.

So it leaves me now where the biggest thing I get from IM is helping people and not really anything to do with me wanting anything specific like I used to.

Because I’m single, I don’t have anyone else to consider directly and can do what I like, so the family thing might become important again in the future but right now it’s all about me - and that’s not enough for me.

So, I’d love to hear why you’re doing IM.

I’m tempted to stop doing it and just go traveling and meeting people or building schools or water supplies where there are people in desperate need.

Someone told me yesterday that I probably didn’t realise how much help I was already providing for people with my IM efforts, but it’s pretty much impossible to measure that and I’m not arrogant enough to hallucinate some fictitious numbers to feel good.

So I’m unsure where to stop my IM activities, just run a private membership sharing with people who are interested, or to put all IM activities within a bigger picture and maybe focus the rewards towards a charity.

I’d love to hear any advice you have or if you’re doing IM for a reason that I haven’t considered that might be something I am doing but didn’t realise, or that I might like to consider also.

      Regards,

      Andy

      Two Choices

What  would you do?….you make the choice. Don’t look for a punch line,
there  isn’t one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made
      the same  choice?

At a  fundraising dinner for a school
      that serves children with learning
disabilities, the father of one of
the students delivered a speech that
would never be forgotten by all who
      attended. After extolling the school
and its dedicated staff, he offered
      a question:

      ‘When not interfered  with by
      outside influences, everything nature
      does, is done with  perfection.

Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn
      things as other children do.
      He cannot understand things
      as other children do.

Where  is the natural order of things in my son?’

The  audience was stilled by the
      query.

      The father continued.
‘I believe  that when a child like
      Shay,who was mentally and physically
      disabled  comes into the world,
an opportunity to realize true human
nature presents  itself, and it comes
in the way other people treat that child.’

Then he  told the following story:

Shay and I had walked past a park
where  some boys Shay knew were
      playing baseball. Shay asked,
‘Do you think  they’ll let me play?’
I knew that most of the boys would
      not want someone  like Shay
on their team, but as a father I
also understood that if  my son were
allowed to play, it would give him a
      much-needed sense of  belonging and
some confidence to be accepted by
others in spite of his  handicaps.

I approached one of the boys on the
field and asked (not  expecting much)
if Shay could play. The boy looked
around for guidance and  said, ‘We’re
losing by six runs and the game is in
the eighth inning. I  guess he can be
on our team and we’ll try to put him
in to bat in the  ninth inning.’

Shay struggled over to the team’s
bench and, with a  broad smile, put
on a team shirt. I watched with a small
tear in my eye  and warmth in my
heart. The boys saw my joy at my son
      being  accepted.

In the bottom of the eighth inning,
Shay’s team scored a few  runs but
      was still behind by three.

In the top of the ninth inning,
Shay put on a glove and played in the
right field. Even though no hits  came
his way, he was obviously ecstatic just
to be in the game and on the  field,
grinning from ear to ear as I waved
      to him from the stands.

In  the bottom of the ninth inning,
      Shay’s team scored again.

Now, with two  outs and the bases
loaded, the potential winning run was
on base and Shay  was scheduled
      to be next at bat.

At this juncture, do they let Shay
bat and give away their chance to win
      the game?

Surprisingly, Shay was  given the bat.
Everyone knew that a hit was all but
      impossible because  Shay didn’t even
know how to hold the bat properly,
much less connect with  the ball.

However, as Shay stepped up to the
      plate, the pitcher,  recognizing that
the other team was putting winning
aside for this moment  in Shay’s life,
moved in a few steps to lob the ball
in softly so Shay  could at least
      make contact.

The first pitch came and Shay swung
      clumsily and missed.

The pitcher again took a few steps
forward to toss  the ball softly towards
      Shay.

As the pitch came in, Shay swung
at the  ball and hit a slow ground
ball right back to the pitcher.

The game  would now be over.

The pitcher picked up the soft
      grounder and could  have easily
thrown the ball to the first baseman.

Shay would have been  out and that
would have been the end of the game.

      Instead, the  pitcher threw the
ball right over the first baseman’s
head, out of reach  of all team mates.

Everyone from the stands and both
teams started  yelling, ‘Shay, run to
      first!

      Run to first!’

Never in his life had  Shay ever run
that far, but he made it to first base.

      He scampered down  the baseline,
      wide-eyed and startled.

      Everyone yelled, ‘Run to  second,
      run to second!’

      Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly
      ran towards  second, gleaming and
struggling to make it to the base.

B y the time  Shay rounded towards
second base, the right fielder had the
ball . the  smallest guy on their team
who now had his first chance to be the
      hero for  his team.

He could have thrown the ball to the
second-baseman for the  tag, but he
      understood the pitcher’s intentions so
he, too, intentionally  threw the ball
high and far over the third-baseman’s
      head.

Shay ran  toward third base deliriously
as the runners ahead of him circled
      the  bases toward home.

All were screaming, ‘Shay, Shay, Shay,
      all the  Way Shay’

Shay reached third base because the
opposing shortstop  ran to help him by
turning him in the direction of third
base, and  shouted, ‘Run to third!

      Shay, run to third!’

As Shay rounded  third, the boys
from both teams, and the spectators,
were on their feet  screaming, ‘Shay,
      run home! Run home!’

Shay ran to home, stepped on the
plate, and was cheered as the hero
who hit the grand slam and won the
      game  for his team

‘That day’, said the father softly
with tears now  rolling down his face,
‘the boys from both teams helped
bring a piece of  true love and humanity
      into this world’.

Shay didn’t make it to  another summer.
He died that winter, having never
      forgotten being the hero
      and making me so happy,
and coming home and seeing his
      Mother tearfully  embrace her little
      hero of the day!

AND NOW A LITTLE FOOT NOTE TO
      THIS STORY:

We all send thousands of jokes through
the e-mail without a  second thought,
but when it comes to sending messages
      about life choices,  people hesitate.

      The crude, vulgar, and often
      obscene pass freely  through
      cyberspace, but public discussion
about decency is too often  suppressed
      in our schools and workplaces.

If  you’re thinking about forwarding this message, chances are that you’re
probably sorting out the people in your address book who aren’t the
‘appropriate’ ones to receive this type of message Well, the person who
sent you this believes that we all can make a  difference.

We  all have thousands of opportunities
every single day to help realize the
      ‘natural order of things.’

      So many seemingly trivial interactions
between two people present us with a
      choice:

Do we pass along a little  spark of
love and humanity or do we pass up
      those opportunities and leave  the
world a little bit colder in the process?

A wise man once said  every society
is judged by how it treats it’s least
      fortunate amongst  them.

      You now have two choices:

      1. Delete

      2.  Forward

      Using Squidoo

      Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Now that I’m back in the UK for a little while (2 weeks anyway), I’ve had some time to settle back into a routine.

I’ve been doing some more testing with Squidoo.

The results are pretty amazing so far.

I created a new Lense a few days ago and it’s currently in the top 100 (it was 64 last time I checked).

You can see it here: http://www.squidoo.com/FunnyName

I’ve also been using a nice little utility for checking it’s progress which you can use too - it’s here: http://www.squidaholic.com/

Have a look around and play with that (free) Squidoo tool.

      Article Marketing

      Wednesday, November 16th, 2005

I’ve been writing a lot about article marketing lately (watch this space) and I was going to write something for you today, but I came across an article by a fellow marketer which I think you’ll like, so here it is:

Article Marketing - Managing mailing lists

      ~ Initial Shock ~

It can be a shock for many when they start publishing articles online, especially when using either an article submission service or article submission software.
You submit your article, and suddenly you are flooded with emails, firstly to actually subscribe to the various mailing lists to which your articles are published, and secondly when as often as not, you start receiving hundreds, if not thousands of emails from other authors on topics you have no interest in.

~ Why submit to mailing lists? ~

Some people do actually read them, others feed the content onto their sites using various automatic methods. I actually opt to receive digests, and sometimes use the search functions in Gmail to find articles on a particular subject. It can be faster than using a tool or an article directory, especially if you use Gmail as your email client for article submissions. There may even be some search engine benefit, but it is hard to determine the weighting applied. I have however had a “Google Alert” from an article listed in a Yahoo group in the past, so they do look at the content once in a while.

      ~ Initial Setup ~

I wouldn’t think of using a primary email address, but you should use an email address you can check frequently for emails. Quite often you can receive notifications of your articles being used on particular websites. I strongly recommend Gmail for this purpose as it gives a lot of flexibility.

      ~ Step by Step ~

The following is based upon using the Article Marketer service, but applies to using most submission processes.
When you publish your first article using Article Marketer, you will initially receive a flood of emails requesting you to subscribe to mailing lists. These will be from both Yahoo and Topica mailing lists.
Article Marketer give you a “window” of 24 hrs to complete this signup process, before they start submitting your articles to these mailing lists. It is in your best interests to join every mailing list. This will maximise your article exposure, and also prevent emails bouncing in the future (Article Marketer will attempt to send your articles to lists you haven’t subscribed to).

      ~ Yahoo Groups ~

It takes around 30 seconds to sign up to each one, thus the whole process can be completed in 20 minutes. Sometimes the mangled word “Captcha” can catch you out, but it is a painless process.
You should carefull select your mailing options. If you don’t want to receive lots of emails, select the appropriate option for every mailing list.

On Yahoo the options available are as follows:-
      - Individual emails - Receive individual messages. - Daily digest - Receive a daily compilation of many emails in one message. - Special notices - Receive only important email notices from the group moderator. - No email - I’ll read messages on the web site.
Also ensure you select the same email address for every list.

      ~ Topica ~

For Topica, the mailing list options are not so obvious.
Chris Ellington, the owner of Article Marketer recently came to my rescue with the following great tip. (great customer service)
Here’s how you can get digests or stop those emails altogether: * Point your web browser at: http://lists.topica.com/my * You’ll be asked to log in with your user name and password. * Make sure the “My Lists” tab is selected. * Change the “Delivery Method” drop down list to your preference.

If you have forgotton your password, it is easy to get a new one resent, though sometimes it can end up in your bulk/spam folder.
      ~ Un-Sub-scrib-ing ~ (note I don’t want to un-sub-scribe, thus the formatting)
If you want maximum exposure for your articles, un-sub-scrib-ing is a very poor option. You shouldn’t do it. Manage your mailing lists with the excellent tools provided, but don’t use the un-sub-scribe options.

If you do seriously wish to leave a mailing list, there are 2 very clear options.

      1. There is normally a link in the bottom of every email that you click to unsubscribe

      2. There is normally a special email address, seperate from the email address used to send messages, that you can send an email to.

      3. You can log into your account on Topica, Yahoo and Google and change your subscription options easily. (whilst this article doesn’t focus on Google, this applies to Google mailing lists too)

Replying to the mailing list with “un-sub-scribe” is old hat, and makes you look like an idiot, because the message ends up going out to the whole mailing list of possibly 1000s of people, and the person you are referring to might not even be reading the messages posted to the group. Using this keyword will not get you results on modern mailing list systems when sending email to the posting address. If you want to achieve this by email, you have to use the special email address assigned for this purpose.

If you really need to correspond with an author, make sure your email goes to their email address and not that of the mailing list.
Learn to manage your mailing list subscriptions before they manage you.
