    Andys 7 Essential Youtube Tips

    Friday, September 4th, 2009

    Hi,

I just shared some tips with a friend and I thought it only right that I shared them with you too.

    They’re for effectively using Youtube:

One of the most common is Tube Mogul, which let’s you upload one video and it will get distributed to a batch of the top video sharing sites. http://www.tubemogul.com/

I have at least 3 accounts on at least 20 different video sharing sites.

With Youtube specifically, there are some basic things for effective marketing which include:

1 – Ensuring that you include the full url that you want people to be able to go to in the description section (so that it appears as a clickable link next to the video.

2 – Youtube allows you to add annotations after you’ve uploaded a video, these are good for call outs at particular points in the video, and also for enabling adding a clickable text link on the video itself (usually at the beginning and/or end of the video when you want people to be able to take your prefer action). It’s worth testing these to see which get the best conversions.

3 – Youtube provide analytics for the video which are worth checking regularly as they show how much and which parts of the video get viewed most. (obviously those are the parts you would tend to focus on having a strong message or a call to action)

4 – Youtube allow ‘tags’, effective use of the tags ensure the video gets found more often and more easily.

5 – linking to specific parts of the video. – If you look at the end of a Youtube url you will often see something like “#t=31m08s” on the end of the url? That link will take you 31 minutes and 8 seconds into that video, so if you’re referring a person that you want to see a particular piece of the video, this is a good way to do it.

6 – The video title you upload with is just about the biggest influencing factor for the number of views it gets.

7 – Thumbnails - Once your video’s been processed, three representative video thumbnails will be generated automatically by the system. Once these thumbnails have been generated, you can select one of the them as your video thumbnail. I have seen a pattern in how far into the video the thumbnails are taken from and considered testing having certain content at those points, but not sure if that’s too far to go. However, the thumbnail is something people often look at, so worth picking the most suitable one, and testing others. There are tools that will let you pick your thumbnails, so that might be better since different video sites do this differently.

I hope you find these tips useful - post your comments below if you like them / don’t like them - or want more.

    How Google Handles Duplicate Content

    Monday, August 24th, 2009

    Hi,

I was going to write today about Google and how they handle duplicate content on websites. It’s a subject people regularly ask about and there’s a lot of speculation about.

I thought I’d do some research to back up my own experiences and found a nice article that discusses it, so rather than reinvent the wheel, I’ll point you to that article:

    Andys PPC Commandments

    Saturday, July 25th, 2009

I gave someone some advice which I wanted to share with you:

There are some simple rules I use which you may find useful:

1 - Don’t spend money you can’t afford (sometimes it takes time to get a campaign in profit.

2 - Make sure you include negative keywords (don’t waste money on the wrong traffic)

3 - Be congruent (set an expectation in your ad and match it with the link - people don’t like having their expectations unmet, so make sure you send them somewhere that ties in with what your ad said) I know this is common sense but a lot of people write their ad without thinking of where they’re about to send that person and what they want them to do.

4 - Start big a trim down (make a big keyword list and then trim off what doesn’t convert. Sometimes it’s the keywords you don’t expect that turn into sales)

5 - Use Adsense to test (it often helps to make a simple blog/site with information and Adsense and track what people click so that they tell you what to offer.

6 - As per 5 - Track everything so you know what’s working (and not)

7 - Give it a big enough test (don’t just send 100 people and make assumptions, but watch your budget)

8 - Try and get a $50 Adwords voucher, there are a lot of them being given away by hosting companies etc, so you can get $50 of ad credit by spending $5 in many places.

9 - Learn about copywriting (writing effective ads is more complicated than you might think, so you can start right away but take the time to learn how to do it properly and you’ll ultimately make more money)

10 - Watch and learn. (there are a lot of existing successful PPC campaigns running which you can watch and learn from. There are also tools which will help you do this and also create and run your campaigns on a more effective level. check out http://www.speedyppcs.com/ )

    I hope that helps.

The Long Tail For Search Terms

    Saturday, June 20th, 2009

The long tail of a market is not directly related to the number of keywords.

    This is a common misconception.

Long tail doesn’t mean - lots of keywords.

The number of keywords depends entirely on the niche you’re operating in. The tail goes on forever, so you can pick how far along you want to go.

If you’re in the music niche - long tail might just mean very niche cult status music - it could still be one or two keywords.

The meaning of the long tail is related to the segments with lower and lower demand. The stuff that if you had to stock items on physical shelves you wouldn’t give the space to because it’s not popular enough.

On the Internet you can go as obscure as you want, so there are no limits.

The keywords just represent what people are using to search for those long tail niches, so there is no set number of keywords relating to this subject - it all depends on the niche.

The point most marketers are relating to with long tail keywords is search terms with less searches - that doesn’t mean the same as long tail - so sometimes people get confused because of the misuse of the terms.

If you know your market and its sub and micro-niches you should be able to find some long tail phrases without too much trouble - just don’t confuse it with terms that don’t get searched much or you may end up wasting your time.

Blogging Tips - Getting Traffic To Your Blog

    Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

There are many factors that make blogs much better than normal
WebPages including the speed at which blogs are indexed, ability
to submit to blog directories & normal directories, pings and
track backs. All these little things can help drive more traffic
to blogs. Here are 15 popular techniques you can use:

1.) Create at least four keyword posts per day. Most of the top
blogs such as Boing Boing, Daily Kos, and Instapundit (with
literally tens of thousands of visitors per day) publish an
average of 30 small 100-150 word posts per day according to
“Secrets of the A-list Bloggers: Lots of Short Posts” by TNL.net

2.) Submit to My Yahoo! When you submit your own RSS to My Yahoo
    it is indexed by Yahoo.

3.) Submit to Google’s Reader. When you submit your own blog RSS
to Google’s Reader the Google Blog Search will index your site.

4.) Add a relevant link directory to your blog and trade links
like a demon possessed! Although it may take more time than
simply submitting to a search engine one time, this method is
perhaps the best way to drive traffic to your site. Use software
such as Zeus to speed up the link trading process.

5.) Use ping sites like ping-o-matic. Ping your site every time
    you add a new post.

6.) Submit your blog to traditional search engines such as
    AltaVista, and MSN.

7.) Submit your blog to traditional directories such as DMOZ.
Directories (particularly DMOZ) increase relevance with Google.
DMOZ is very picky, but what do you have to lose by trying?

8.) Submit to as many RSS Directories and Search Engines as
possible. This is a simple but repetitive process that can be
done with software such as RSS SUBMIT.

9.) Comment on other blogs. Do not just leave short, lazy
comments like “I agree.” Leave well thought out replies that will
force readers to wonder “who wrote this?”

10.) Use track backs. If there is a blog that you refer to or
quote and it is highly relevant to your subject, leave a track
back. It increases your link popularity and may even score a few
interested readers from the linked site.

11.) Go offline. Use newspaper ads, public bulletin boards,
business cards, even stickers to let as many people as possible
    know your blog exists.

12.) Ad a link to your blog in your e-mail signature block.

13.) Use Groups (Usenet). Find a relevant group on Google groups,
Yahoo groups, MSN groups or any of the thousands of other FREE
group services and find like minded people and talk with them.
Make sure your use your blog URL like it is your name.

14.) Use Forums. Forums are one of the best places to go for
advice. Go to forums and find problems to solve. Make sure you
leave your blog name, but be tactful about it; some forums get
annoyed with those who selfishly drop a few links to their own
    site and leave.

15.) Tag your website. Tagging is a new idea that has erupted
across the web. Sites like Del.icio.us, Technorati and many
others have a social feature that allows you to place your
article under keywords or “tags” that everyone interested in that
    tag can see.

Although these are some of the most popular ways to drive traffic
to your blog, do not limit your self to tips and lists. Use your
imagination and you will come up with thousands of ways to drive
    traffic to your blog!

    Search Engine Keywords Selection

    Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

    ===================================================

    Search Engine Keywords Selection

    ===================================================

Search engines are the vehicles that drive potential

customers to your websites. But in order for visitors to

reach their destination - your website - you need to

provide them with specific and effective signs that will

direct them right to your site. You do this by creating

    carefully chosen keywords.

Think of the right keywords as the Open Sesame! of the

Internet. Find the exactly right words or phrases, and

presto! hoards of traffic will be pulling up to your front

door. But if your keywords are too general or too

over-used, the possibility of visitors actually making it

all the way to your site - or of seeing any real profits

from the visitors that do arrive - decreases dramatically.

Your keywords serve as the foundation of your marketing

strategy. If they are not chosen with great precision, no

matter how aggressive your marketing campaign may be, the

right people may never get the chance to find out about it.

So your first step in plotting your strategy is to gather

    and evaluate keywords and phrases.

You probably think you already know EXACTLY the right words

for your search phrases. Unfortunately, if you haven’t

followed certain specific steps, you are probably WRONG.

It’s hard to be objective when you are right in the center

of your business network, which is the reason that you may

not be able to choose the most efficient keywords from the

inside. You need to be able to think like your customers.

And since you are a business owner and not the consumer,

your best bet is to go directly to the source.

Instead of plunging in and scribbling down a list of

potential search words and phrases yourself, ask for words

from as many potential customers as you can. You will most

likely find out that your understanding of your business

and your customers’ understanding is significantly

    different.

The consumer is an invaluable resource. You will find the

words you accumulate from them are words and phrases you

probably never would have considered from deep inside the

    trenches of your business.

Only after you have gathered as many words and phrases from

outside resources should you add your own keyword to the

list. Once you have this list in hand, you are ready for

    the next step: evaluation.

The aim of evaluation is to narrow down your list to a

small number of words and phrases that will direct the

highest number of quality visitors to your website. By

“quality visitors” I mean those consumers who are most

likely to make a purchase rather than just cruise around

your site and take off for greener pastures. In evaluating

the effectiveness of keywords, bear in mind three elements:

    popularity, specificity, and motivation.

Popularity is the easiest to evaluate because it is an

objective quality. The more popular your keyword is, the

more likely the chances are that it will be typed into a

search engine which will then bring up your URL.

You can now purchase software that will rate the popularity

of keywords and phrases by giving words a number rating

based on real search engine activity. Software such as

WordTracker will even suggest variations of your words and

phrases. The higher the number this software assigns to a

given keyword, the more traffic you can logically expect to

be directed to your site. The only fallacy with this

concept is the more popular the keyword is, the greater the

search engine position you will need to obtain. If you are

down at the bottom of the search results, the consumer will

probably never scroll down to find you.

Popularity isn’t enough to declare a keyword a good choice.

You must move on to the next criteria, which is

specificity. The more specific your keyword is, the greater

the likelihood that the consumer who is ready to purchase

your goods or services will find you.

Let’s look at a hypothetical example. Imagine that you have

obtained popularity rankings for the keyword “automobile

companies.” However, you company specializes in bodywork

only. The keyword “automobile body shops” would rank lower

on the popularity scale than “automobile companies,” but it

would nevertheless serve you much better. Instead of

getting a slew of people interested in everything from

buying a car to changing their oil filters, you will get

only those consumers with trashed front ends or crumpled

fenders being directed to your site. In other words,

consumers ready to buy your services are the ones who will

immediately find you. Not only that, but the greater the

specificity of your keyword is, the less competition you

    will face.

The third factor is consumer motivation. Once again, this

requires putting yourself inside the mind of the customer

rather than the seller to figure out what motivation

prompts a person looking for a service or product to type

in a particular word or phrase. Let’s look at another

example, such as a consumer who is searching for a job as

an IT manager in a new city. If you have to choose between

“Seattle job listings” and “Seattle IT recruiters” which do

you think will benefit the consumer more? If you were

looking for this type of specific job, which keyword would

you type in? The second one, of course! Using the second

keyword targets people who have decided on their career,

have the necessary experience, and are ready to enlist you

as their recruiter, rather than someone just out of school

who is casually trying to figure out what to do with his or

her life in between beer parties. You want to find people

who are ready to act or make a purchase, and this requires

subtle tinkering of your keywords until your find the most

specific and directly targeted phrases to bring the most

    motivated traffic to you site.

Once you have chosen your keywords, your work is not done.

You must continually evaluate performance across a variety

of search engines, bearing in mind that times and trends

change, as does popular lingo. You cannot rely on your log

traffic analysis alone because it will not tell you how

many of your visitors actually made a purchase.

Luckily, some new tools have been invented to help you

judge the effectiveness of your keywords in individual

search engines. There is now software available that

analyzes consumer behavior in relation to consumer traffic.

This allows you to discern which keywords are bringing you

    the most valuable customers.

This is an essential concept: numbers alone do not make a

good keyword; profits per visitor do. You need to find

keywords that direct consumers to your site who actually

buy your product, fill out your forms, or download your

product. This is the most important factor in evaluating

the efficacy of a keyword or phrase, and should be the

sword you wield when discarding and replacing ineffective

or inefficient keywords with keywords that bring in better

    profits.

Ongoing analysis of tested keywords is the formula for

search engine success. This may sound like a lot of work -

and it is! But the amount of informed effort you put into

your keyword campaign is what will ultimately generate your

    business’ rewards.

    Monitoring Search Engine Positions

    Sunday, March 1st, 2009

    ===================================================

    Monitoring Search Engine Positions

    ===================================================

Since search engines are the first stop for people on the

Internet looking for goods or services, the position your

website appears in search results is an important factor.

If your URL shows up far down the results list, the chances

of the consumer never finding you increase incrementally.

Once you achieve a high search engine position, it is

essential that you make sure you maintain the high ranking

you have worked so hard to achieve.

This means you must come up with a strategy to monitor your

search engines positions. This strategy is crucial to the

success of any marketing campaign. Think of your search

engine positions as your online portfolio. Would you let

your stock portfolio be ruled by chance and market

fluctuations, or would you keep close tabs on your stocks

so you could buy and sell when the time is right? This is

the way you must consider your search engines positions.

Be aware that at first, after you have launched your search

engine campaign and done all the right things to increase

your rankings, you will most likely see a continual upward

climb. What you need to be on the lookout for is the moment

that upward climb reaches a plateau. When this happens,

your search engine position campaign moves into stage two,

    the monitoring and protecting stage.

In stage two, do not be concerned about the short-term

fluctuations in your positions. These are similar to the

subtle rising and falling of stocks in a portfolio.

Short-term movement is an integral part of the whole

process. It’s the long-term changes that you must watch for

and prepare to act on immediately.

Analyzing the long-term trends of search engines positions

is imperative. The way in which search engines rank

websites may change at the drop of hat. If you are unaware

of these changes - many of which are subtle yet can be

deadly to your ranking - your position may drop to the

bottom of the list before you can get your bearings. To

prevent this kind of precipitous drop, you must create a

system to monitor your positions on a monthly basis. Devise

a chart to keep tabs on your top ranking positions or your

top pages, and make sure to watch “the market” closely.

Each search engine uses a formula to compute website

rankings. When a search engine changes this formula in any

way, it may raise or lower your ranking. Some search

engines use a number of different formulas, rotating them

so that a formula doesn’t become overused or outdated.

Depending on which formula is being applied, your search

engine position may suddenly drop or rise in rank

significantly. Therefore, you must check your positions

frequently in order to catch when a search engine changes

formulas and what effect it has on your positions.

You must also deal with your competition - a crucial factor

you must always be vigilant about. Your competitor’s

position may suddenly rise, automatically lowering your

position. Or their position may drop, pushing your position

higher. Each month, expect position changes due to the

continual changes that are occurring in your competitor’s

position, and be prepared to adjust your marketing strategy

to compensate for decreased rankings. Monitoring these

fluctuations will also give you vital information about how

to improve your website to increase your position in search

    results.

Of course, you must discern what the most popular search

engines are in order for your monitoring efforts to be

effective. Right now, there are ten popular search engines

that direct most of Internet traffic to your sites. The

challenge you face is that these top ten may change from

    month to month.

This means that your must not only monitor your search

engine positions, but you must also keep track of the

ranking popularity of the search engines you are

monitoring. Find out which search engines people use most

frequently every month and be sure to live in the present!

People are fickle about their favorite search engines, and

it takes constant vigilance to follow their dalliances. The

search engines they loved when you first launched your

campaign may be old news in the next few months. You must

adjust your list of engines according to the whims of the

    Internet users. Check out

    http://www.websitepositionwizard.com

for an easy to to check your list of website.

Another factor to monitor carefully is a sudden drop of

your positions in all search engines. This is not the same

as monthly fluctuations - this is a neon red warning sign!

It could mean a number of different things.

It all your search engine positions have plummeted, it may

indicate that search engines spiders - those sneaky

programs that seek out your site and rank their positions -

have found some type of problem with your website. If you

have recently changed the code, for instance, the spider

may become utterly confused and consequently drop your

positions disastrously. If a spider creeps up on your

website when it is down for adjustments or changes, you may

actually disappear from a search engine index entirely. Or

a search engine may drastically change its formula, and

suddenly all of your website come up as irrelevant. If that

search engine is a current favorite, it may create a domino

effect, causing all of your position to drop in all search

    engines.

Some search engines rely on the results from other search

engines, and it is vital that you know which engines these

are and keep track of all the engines they influence. The

biggest problem here is that search engines will sometimes

change affiliations, and this can create a major shift in

the geography of the Internet. For example, recently Yahoo

decided to display only results gleaned from Google. So you

must not only monitor your own positions, but you must keep

abreast of seismic shifts in the landscape of the Internet

    as a whole.

Finally, pay attention to your keywords. Keywords are the

foundation bricks of the entire search engine system, and

they demand individual scrutiny in your monitoring efforts.

If you have found that a number of your positions have

plummeted, it may mean that a page of your website has

become invisible or inaccessible to search engine spiders.

Or the competition for that particular keyword or phrase

has recently rocketed into outer space. In either case, you

must act quickly and efficiently to regain lost ground.

Your search engine marketing campaign is an investment. If

costs you time and money on a continual basis. Protect this

investment as diligently as you would your financial

portfolio. In the same way, track your positions from an

objective perspective, and monitor your positions on a

regular basis. Make sure your time and effort reap rewards

by keeping your eye on the big picture - your long-term

    marketing campaign.

    Multiple Class C Hosting

    Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

    Hi,

As you can imagine, I have several hosting companies to handle all of my sites (there are hundreds of them - even with the domains I don’t use not counted)

Although I’m a technical guy I still prefer to keep everything simple, so occasionally I rationalise some of my tools, accounts etc. so that they’re easier to manage. Very occasionally I think of a new marketing method so different that I need different hosting just to allow me to test it.

So, with that said, recently I was having a ‘clear out’ to catch up with any domains I’d bought but wasn’t using and what tools are current and useful and which ones I no longer need or have been replaced with newer or better versions.

There were a few things that surprised me, but one (slightly techy one) was that even with the many hosting companies I use, I’d run out of dedicated IP addresses to use.

Now, at this point if you’re not familiar with the ‘techy’ side of marketing and search engines you might be wondering what I’m on about, that’s fine - you don’t really need to understand it. 15 years ago I would spend a whole day teaching people this stuff but you don’t need to know it, just the impact it has.

So, with no IPs left I could either host my new domains on the same IP addresses as previous ones - not a problem in itself, it’s actually how most people do their hosting.

It’s also the reason I can do some of my ’sneeky’ research when checking out competitors, but I’ll leave that for another day :)

Anyway - I’ll cut to the chase.

I ended up deciding for my search engine related plans this year I need more hosting and so I looked around at my options.

I usually buy what’s called a ‘reseller’ account which means I can host as many domains as I like on that same package and basically behave like a web hosting company - except I’m provding the hosting to myself for each new domain. But as I said - even these accounts aren’t all the same and my current ones have all run out of IP addresses so I decided to rationalise some sites onto a new host which will allow me to have a new batch of different IPs for my cunning seo world-domination tactics :)

The place I settled on (after a recommendation) was GotWebHost

They have some cheap packages which are excellent for serious marketers and search engine experts who need ’special’ things like multiple class C hosting.

In case you’re wondering - the reason I need the different IP addresses is so that when I build related niche websites I can link them to others in my network without some of the search engines thinking that means I’m trying to fool them and no rewarding them for the links.

With search engines like Yahoo and MSN (Google seems to be really good at working out relationships between sites) if I do things effectively, I can get a ton of traffic from interlinking these sites just because these engines like to see links coming in. If I constantly update and change these links they like it even more - so that’s what I do.

Making this stuff work effectively is one of my little secrets to being able to get results that others struggle with. It’s simple, but only if you have a master plan and build your systems efficiently - and there are tools to make most of it light work.

    Traffic Geyser Review

    Monday, January 5th, 2009

A month or so ago I met a guy called Mike Koenigs at a seminar in Singapore.

Mike was a nice guy and was speaking at this Internet Marketing seminar along with a bunch of friends of mine.

I sat and had a good chat with Mike in the bar the evening before the event and then watched his session when he spoke.

The product Mike was offering was called Traffic Geyser.

Traffic Geyser is a system that automates many things which you would normally like to include in your online marketing but probably don’t get the time to do.

These are things such as video marketing, blog posting, social bookmarking etc.. - on a big scale so that your links and web pages get found easily in the search engines.

I loved what he was showing as it was basically bringing together many things which I’d already been scaling up but not tied-together in one place.

I don’t want to get all goggled-eyed about it, but if you need more traffic to your website, there are not many better ways than just using Mikes system. It works for any niche and you don’t have to be a techy to use it. They even have options where you get them to do some of the setup work or even offer 1-on-1 coaching if you’d prefer to have someone show you what to do.

    Check it out at: http://www.trafficgeyser.com

That’s not an affiliate link so you know it’s a genuine recommendation - but I will join the affiliate program as I’m sure I’ll be spreading the word a lot about this cool resource.

    Regards,

    Andy

How To Get Back To Dominating Your Niches With A Simple Recipe

    Saturday, November 15th, 2008

    Hi,

I know you still want more information on getting traffic despite what I’ve already told you ;) so here’s another installment which you should find useful.

Don’t look for ways to make this hard, there are ways to make it simple so use your brain and no excuses :)

Here’s a 1:30 video with a quick chest workout that’s had over 6 MILLION views.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQAh7m4xsMo

    Take a lesson from that.

    USE VIDEO!

Getting traffic with web2.0 properties is really easy when you just create yourself a clear plan or system to follow.

Write down the 10 most common questions in your niche and make a quick 30 second or so video answering each one. (end up with 10 short videos)

Do the same again for the 10 most important questions in your niche that people SHOULD be asking. (another 10 short videos)

Name the videos the same as the question and upload them all the all video sharing sites.

You can grab a tool like ‘video traffic assistant’ for free to get them into a bunch.

I’m assuming you’ve created PAD files and submitted to the software sites that support PAD submissions.

(again there are free tools for that)

Setup a blog if you haven’t already (because this will give you an rss feed to submit to rss syndication sites)

Submit the blog to blog directories and website directories.
Make you use Wordpress and add plugins for social bookmarking all posts (lookup Onlywire and wordpress plugins)

Create a squeeze page where you send all of the people from the videos (put the url of your squeeze page in the video) and in exchange for their details give them access to all 20 videos (They’re already on Youtube so just setup some protected blog posts with the videos embedded)

    That should get you started.

Also - I always get the best traffic from Joint ventures, so look for other sites in your niche and work out a JV of some sort or at least promote each others stuff on your thank you pages.

    Andy

    Blogging For Business

    Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

    Blogging For Business Bible

first wrote this article on January 9, 2007 so I thought it was about time I updated it :)

But first I’ll let you read the original pretty much intact as it’s still valid today.

    The items covered here are:

    1) Don’t Wait before Blogging.

    2) Using Blogs to get your site found quickly.

    3) What have Blogs and PR got to do with Indexing.

    4) How to get your large sites pages found quickly.

    5) If you’re using Adsense on those Pages - learn from this.

    1) Don’t Wait before Blogging.

If you’ve been looking at creating a blog but don’t know how or why to do it, stay tuned for a new product announcement that’ll help you out.

Just to show you how quick and easy it can be, I’ve created several new blogs and fed them all through ‘feedburner’ to add tracking facilities and I’ll be conducting some tests and giving you the results when I’m done.

If you want tracking, whether you host the blog your self or not, you can go to Feedburner and ‘burn’ the feed. This will not only giving you tracking stats but also let you tweek it to be more compatible (Bloggers default output format is .atom) and also add other revenue streams to it.

    2) Using Blogs to get your site found quickly.

If you’re struggling to get new websites found by the Yahoo Search Engine, here’s a little tip you might like.

Set up a Blog with whichever service you prefer (I like Blogger.com)Go over to Yahoo.com and setup a ‘MyYahoo’ account. It’s free.

Then on your MyYahoo homepage and goto the section that says ‘choose content’ and then tick the box that says RSS Headlines (BETA).

Add your feed url(s) to this, so that they are shown on your MyYahoo page.

Yahoo will be around within 48 hours.

    3) What have Blogs and PR got to do with Indexing.

The reason that Blogs and PR are linked to getting indexed is this:-

    A) When you setup a blog it’s not quite the same as having a new website because there’s one major difference - Even if they don’t have the facility built in, you can effectively ‘announce’ the presence of your blog (and any new content you add to it) by ‘pinging’ (sending an announcement to) several large blog directories. In effect, this is like doing the ‘add url’ on a search engine, except that blogs get visited Very quickly whereas it could take ages for your site to get indexed this way.

If you use Blogger then there’s a tickbox labelled “ping Weblogs” which if selected, will announce your new content to the Weblogs.com service whenever you post new material - this has the effect of getting the Googlebot (not mediabot) to visit your blog sometimes within minutes. Thus, if you’ve linked to some new pages on your site (some deep pages) - they usually also get a visit pretty quickly.

It’s like getting a link from somewhere you know gets spidered regularly - except you can cause it to be spidered. (which is nice).

If you want Yahoo to come and see you quickly too, whether you’re using Blogger or a different blogprogram, you can create a free MyYahoo account and add your feeds to it - that’ll have the effect of ‘announcing’ them to Yahoo.

Again, the reason for this isn’t to make your blog rank well - it’s to get the links to your actual websites new pages to get spidered quickly because you’re using the blog to call the bots for a visit and linking from the blog to your new pages.

    B) The Page Rank comments - These are a reflection of the fact that in general, higher page rank sites get visited by the bots more frequently (since you can have a high PR from good internal linking and a few high PR incoming links from sites without much traffic - this is a generalisation and NOT a rule), so it’s more likely that if you’re not blogging and pinging that a few high PR links (from traffic heavy sites) will be a good alternative.

If you want even more, here’s something I wrote on another forum recently (and in my blogs) about getting a high page count site indexed quickly:

    4) How to get your large sites pages found quickly.

No-one can guarantee that your site will be indexed in 24 hours since the only person with ultimate control is Google.

However, the key to getting a new site fully indexed is deep linking.

If you were to just leave the site and get links to the index page, you could end up waiting 9 months to get it all in.

Have you created a site map(s).

Depending on your site, it may pay you to create several site maps for different parts of your site.

    The basic principle is this:

The Search Engine Bots will investigate pages that they find links to from pages that they’re already visiting (you know this since you mentioned blog and ping). When they do this, the work on a portion of the pages they’ve found about about at a time, so the more pages and the deeper the links to those pages - the longer it will take and the more times the bot will need to come back to get more.

So, the most effective thing you can do is: Create several site maps which cover lots of pages that have fairly shallow linking the get to them all (normally 2 levels max).

So rather than having 1 huge site map that lists every page. Create 5 site maps of 1000 links, or even more.

Then - Get links to these separate site maps aswell as your main index page. From as many different, high quality, high traffic sources as you can.

Blogs, RSS, Forums, Directories are all good examples of these.

If you get desparate you can buy links from high PR sites, but there’s no need.

Any of the large, popular forums probably get visited by the bots every day (my own site does).

    5) If you’re using Adsense on those Pages - learn from this.

Improving Adsense click through rates is something that any ppc advertiser should be interested in.

Well, I’ve spent some time now looking at all the various keyword research tools for selecting the most profitable keywords to target with Adsense.

To my delight, I also stumbled upon an ebook written by a guy called Jonathan Legar that covers it all. He also provides you with a huge list of profitable keywords (including some that are as much as $100 a click - yes you heard me right)

I just had to tell you about this amazing resource.

I know you’ll just love this resource.

    http://hop.clickbank.net/?techtrader.astracker

    Have fun with it.

If you followed everything I wrote above - you’re in for some happy days :)

An Easy But Little Known Way To Get Lots Of Links

    Monday, November 10th, 2008

Before I get started, I’m not proclaiming to have invented a new secret link building method (not in this post anyway) and you may have heard what I’m about to share.

However, 99% of people are not using this strategy so I want to remind you about it or enlighten you if you haven’t heard of it.

If I say the term ‘PAD File’ or ‘Software Sharing Sites’ - you’ll either know what I’m about to say or wonder what I’m on about :)

    Here’s the skinny:

    PAD - Portable Application Description.

You can look it up on Google or Wikipedia if you want the history.

Basically it’s an XML file format that many software sharing sites use. It’s a format that they can read to grab information about your software and link to its download page.

So, while in itself it’s just a text file, it contains your product information and link.

Let me repeat that - SOFTWARE SITES READ THIS FILE (AND LIST) YOUR PRODUCT INFORMATION AND LINK.

Since there are lots of these sites and each one that lists your file effectively gives you a link and traffic - This can be a no-brainer, really simple and quick way to get lots of links and traffic to your business.
Ok, this is the point where you say “But I’m not selling software” or “I’m not technical - that sounds technical” or some other excuse for why you can’t use this benefit in your business.

    So I’ll make it simple.

Creating a ‘piece of software’ can be VERY SIMPLE - Yes, even if you’re a complete non-techy newbie.

Once you get your head around how this works, you can dominate niches in the search engine results.

If you’re too lazy to look into this and utilize it then there’s no hope for you.

If you’re too non-techy to get your head around it - get a friend to work it out and then show you.

Oh, and there are tools for helping you get the submissions done.

The software you create can be as simple as a toolbar, which you can make using the resources here: http://www.conduit.com/, an ebook or a screensaver.

You can Google “PAD software file submission tool” so I’m not going to waste your time here, but here’s a couple of links if you’re too lazy - padmanager.org, http://www.avangate.com/, http://www.ebookcompiler.com/download.html, http://www.blumentals.net/

Here’s a list of a few software submission sites - check their Page Rank and see if you’re interested in having them list anything of yours:

Get Yourself High Quality Videos With PLR

    Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

I’ve decided to start spending some time letting you know about decent products which can help you make money.

PLR Video Package - High Quality

This does NOT mean that I’ll be pimping every product with a commission - in fact, the opposite. I’ve made a point over the years of not being on every bandwagon for all launches that happen.
Sometimes this backfires and I get people emailing me asking where is my link so that they can use it and they’re disappointed when I don’t have one because they were excited about being able to give me some credit while buying something they want.

So, when I see a great product or service and I personally know, or respect the person making the offer - I’ll let you know.

Know, I’ll say up front that I’m expecting to have tested or used everything that I tell you about, but if time doesn’t permit and I’m just too busy I might still tell you about it.

But if I haven’t used or tested it I’ll tell you.

    On to this particular offer.

This is by my friend Edmund Loh and his colleague Stephen Luc.

Since I’ve been in Singapore I’ve taken time to meet and learn about who are the guys out here in the IM field and Edmund is one of them. Edmund has built himself a very successful business creating and selling products with Private Label Rights.

Often people don’t realise the benefits of this business model and it’s not for everyone, but Edmund has made it his business to be successful and he’s doing very well.

His latest offer contains video tutorial products which Stephen is creating. Between the pair of them these guys are doing some great work and this is an excellent chance for you to benefit from that.

If like me, you’ve in IM a while, whenever you go to someones sales page you start wondering if you’re gonna get stung with a One Time Offer (OTO) after your purchase. It’s a great way to increase your revenue and as a smart marketer it can be a great way to offer even better deals to JV partners.

Well, as usual I was reading the advert for this offer and my brain started considering what they might offer as a OTO (knowing they know their business so there will be one), and by the time I finished reading I was looking forward to pressing the BUY button so that I could get on and see what the OTO was.

I was guessing that more of the same would be a good offer - I wasn’t disappointed and I happily bought the OTO aswell.

So, obviously I joined Edmunds affiliate program and wanted to tell you about it too.

    Here’s the link

If you’re quick you’ll get the package at a much lower price than it will reach and they’ll still be crazy enough to be offering the OTO to you - If it’s there, Buy It, you won’t find value like that often.

How I Made $3k in 24 Hours - And how you could.

    Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Here’s a little story for anyone wondering if they can get started online.

You’ve probably caught the wave of people telling you that you should use video to promote your business, or that if you’re not using video you’re missing out big time - well I’m not into that, only you know whether it’s right for you or not, but here’s one way I used it to make a few bucks:

I did some niche research in one of my specialist areas - blogging and found a few common questions that people had.

    These included things like:

    “how do I install wordpress”
“how do I install wp plugins”
“how can I use rss to feed content to my blog”
“how can I use social bookmarking with my blog”
“how can I automate content building and social bookmarking”

So, basically there were a lot of people new to blogging, new to plugins and new to socialbookmarking.

I made a short video (20 minutes) showing how to do the things they were looking for. I used Camtasia for this but there are other ways to do it.

I ran an offer to get some testimonials.

I broke the video into short (1-2 mins) sections for each sub topic within it and created 6 smaller videos.

I uploaded the snippets to Youtube and that was it.

The offer sold over 100 copies of the video and Youtube brought in constant traffic from day one.

I made $3000 in the first 24 hours and have made money continuously since that day.

This was a 20 minute - unedited video.

Nothing except my knowledge and camtasia was required for this, there was nothing for people to buy to follow my advice and there was no fluff or filler.

now….. I want to give you an insight into how you could use this strategy to massively help any niche you’re working in.

Consider what I’ve just told you and then think about this:

If I was to want to build a LOT of links to a new website and I knew that ideally those links would be from lots of other (related) websites and would ideally keep increasing over time - how could I use this technique to do that?

    ……………

    ……………

If you were to do the same as I did, BUT aswell as the video you offered Wordpress templates themed for a particular niche (you can get these created for under $100) and package the information as a “How to create a themed recipe niche website that builds on auto-pilot and uses the power of social bookmarking to promote itself on auto-pilot”
Do you think you could sell any? Do you think you could give it away?

If you consider that your desired outcome is links - you can give this stuff away.

So your customer gets a template (or set of templates) and a video showing how to install it and set it up so that it builds and promotes itself on auto-pilot - FOR FREE!

If you haven’t worked it out - you include a link to your site in the template, so that every page they create (on auto-pilot) has a link to your site.

This way you get lots of people auto-building continuously growing themed blogs on which every page provides a keyword rich link back to your site.

I’ve done this and had over 100,000 links back to my site within a month.

And there’s nothing here that you couldn’t do yourself.

And that’s just ONE strategy for getting lots of links - and even get people to pay to for the pleasure.

I hope you find some inspiration in there.

    Regards,

    Andy
